22nd Annual Tulsa Shoot-Out
Christmas Day the J&J Hendrick racing team left for the Tulsa Shootout. After finishing 4th last year Hendrick set his sights on the "Big Prize!" But with a record number of cars 459 and 110 multi and non wing cars that was going to be easier said then done. Jonathan was also running two cars this year running both wing and non wing. The non wing car would roll on to the track first. Jonathan started 6th and ended up finishing 3rd in his heat. Hendrick did not make the transfer so that put him in the B-Main. He would roll out in the 5th position and had a hard charge to the front and won with a last lap pass in turn one. So now he would have to run a qualifier race and he started 2nd and ended up 2nd in a transfer spot for that nights None wing feature event. Jonathan would start 18th in the event but on the first lap coming to the green there was a pile up and knocked Jonathan out of the race with a flat Left Front tire.
Looking for some better luck hendrick strapped in the wing car. Jonathan would start 6th in his heat and he finished 3rd missing the transfer spot by 1 position. So that meant that he was going to have to fight his way back in the Qualifier he would start on the Pole position and with 3 laps to go in the lead the chain let go. So that put hendrick in the C-Main he would start 3rd and came up and won it with another last lap pass coming out of turn 3. So on to the B-main Event he would start 17th and with only 10 laps he had to get 4th or better so he made a mad dash to the front passing 12 cars in 10 laps getting to 3rd and holding his position since he was now in a transfer spot. Jonathan ended up finishing in the third position in the B-main. So that put Jonathan in the transfer spot for the A-Main. Jonathan would start 18th a couple laps into it Jonathan got squeezed down and jumped the berm and got upside down. The car was not damaged to bad the crew thought but when Jonathan took the green on the restart the car came to a stop with a bad fuel pump. "Pretty disappointing to come all this way and crash early in the race." said Hendrick.
